The Public Service Company of New Mexico lost out on its bid to supply natural gas service to Mexicali, Baja California, but company officials are still interested in pursuing other projects in the country, according to an Associated Press report.
PNM had submitted a bid to design and operate a natural gas transmission and distribution system in Mexicali. The proposal was turned down by Mexico's Energy Regulatory Commission because certain information presented in the proposal was deficient and failed to use general systems of units and measures adopted in Mexico. Under the proposed bid, a Mexican construction firm, Tribasa, would have built the system and a Las Cruces, NM based company, Coronado Corporation, would have provided equity financing. PNM had planned to invest up to $5 million in the project and had hoped to operate it.
